Earthquake Devastates St. Joseph Home in Port au Prince

Broken Wings is the Canadian fundraising organization whose primary mission is to support the vision and ministry of the St. Joseph Family in Haiti, which includes the St. Joseph’s Home for Boys in Port-au Prince, Wings of Hope in Fermathe, and Trinity House in Jacmel.

Orphans caring for orphans: a beautiful story

St. Joseph’s Home for Boys was Michael Geilenfeld’s dream that became a reality in 1985, bringing boys off the streets of Port-au-Prince to provide them with a Christian home and family.

When French missionaries announced they were leaving Haiti and needed to find care for the disabled children under their supervision, Michael took some of the older boys from St. Joseph's to choose a child to bring home and care for. But the boys surprised Michael when they chose to adopt all the children. Wings of Hope had become a thriving home for disabled children, recently rebuilt and expanded to include a day school for disabled community children and lovely guest facilities.

For more on the St. Joseph's family of homes for children, visit the Broken Wings website.

'princess and the pea' canvas-mounted painting from kids deserve art

One of the most popular girl paintings at Kids Deserve Art, this 16x20" piece is hand-painted on stretched and mounted canvas and dusted with a touch of fairy glitter. Ready to hang.

Kids Deserve Art is a mom-owned online art gallery. Haley-O started the gallery after her first child was born in 2005. She always had a love for art, and a strong belief that cultivating children's appreciation for art can significantly enrich their lives. While searching for art for her daughter’s nursery, her mission became clear: she wanted to bring genuine art into children’s lives, while supporting the artists in her community. And so, as the saying goes, Kids Deserve Art was born.

The pieces in the Kids Deserve Art gallery -- which include paintings, growth charts, coat hooks, light-switch plates, drawer pulls, tote bags, and more -- are all created by professional Canadian artists. Kids Deserve Art is a part of Haley’s personal website Cheaty Monkey, which is also a celebration of kids and the art of motherhood.

All proceeds from items sold on the To Haiti with Love auction go directly to the St. Joseph's Family in Haiti. classical acting session (Vancouver) with Donald Adams, founder, 'The Shakespeare Centre'

Being a skilled and effective classical actor requires training. If you show up at an audition for the VSO and say, “I have this violin and I really like playing it but I’m kind of self-taught. Anyway, here goes!”, you won’t get very far. It’s the same with classical acting. You need the tools to bring the great language and characters and plays to life. This class will focus on four areas of training: voice and movement, text analysis, rehearsal techniques, and performance.

All you need to get started are two contrasting Shakespearean monologues (one of which you have memorized in advance). Whether you’re a near-beginner who wants a solid footing for your work, or a seasoned professional looking for a brush-up, this is the class for you!

Donald Adams co-founded The Shakespeare Centre over five years ago with partner Jo Bates. While continuing to teach, and coach privately, during that time, Donald has appeared with Bard on the Beach (Macbeth, Shylock, and many others), Touchstone Theatre (numerous productions, including "Little Mercy's First Murder", "Prodigal Son" ", and "Influence"), the Christ Church Cathedral PAL benefit ("Agamemnon"), Blackbird Theatre ("Peer Gynt"), and Electric Co. Theatre ("Brilliant"). He has worked with such notable classical mentors as Douglas Campbell, John Neville, Robin Phillips, and Patsy Rodenburg, and performed Shakespearean roles across Canada for Stratford Festival, Canadian Stage, Citadel Theatre, The Playhouse, The Arts Club, and Carousel Theatre.

A long-time teacher for Bard's Young Shakespeareans, Donald has also taught at Maggie Bassett Studio (Toronto), and conducted workshops at Stratford Festival, and various universities and schools. Most recently, he received a Jessie nomination for his work as Hephaestus in "Influence", played Sir Galahad in the tv movie "Merlin and the Book of Beasts", and will appear in the mini-series "Riverworld".

All proceeds from items sold on the To Haiti with Love auction go directly to the St. Joseph's Family in Haiti. The auction will wrap up on February 8, 2010, and winners will be contacted right away to arrange payment and shipping. Good luck!

One two-hour classical coaching session with Donald Adams for a Vancouver actor or student. May include voice and body work, text analysis, and performance feedback.

a photography session with quadelle -- either in melbourne Australia, toronto ontario, or Nova Scotia

Enjoy spending time with your favourite people and Quadelle will follow with her camera to capture laughs, energy, and personalities. The session can be done in Melbourne, Australia in the near future, or in Nova Scotia in June or July (or even downtown Toronto in mid-June). Quadelle will gear the session to capture the kinds of images you are most interested in having from the day. Within three weeks of the session you will receive a CD of high-resolution images which you can print or share freely.

Quadelle rarely strays far from her camera and loves the beauty of everyday moments. Quadelle is looking forward to having an extended visit with family and friends in Nova Scotia, and as much as she loves her husband's Australian accent, she is wildly hopeful that the visit will be long enough for her children to sound even a bit more Canadian.

All proceeds from items sold on the To Haiti with Love auction go directly to the St. Joseph's Family in Haiti. To make a bid, simply leave a comment with the amount of your bid and your email address. The auction will wrap up on February 8, 2010, and winners will be contacted right away to arrange payment and shipping. Good luck!

A photo shoot for a family, couple, baby, individual or friends with Quadelle -- either in Melbourne, Australia in the near future, Nova Scotia in June or July, or downtown Toronto, Ontario in mid-June.

signed limited-edition hardcover of 'stays crunchy in milk' by adam knave

"Stays Crunchy In Milk is that rare story with both heart and substance. Adam Knave deftly reexamines the pop cultural elements of his childhood then reshapes them into wondrous things both familiar and new. Knave’s engrossing story transforms his love for his early memories into an exciting adventure novel. Its narrative swept me right along. I really cared about what happened next." ~ Gary Wolf, creator of Roger Rabbit

Stays Crunchy in Milk is a pop culture road trip novel that winds its way through the 80s to discuss friendship, the concept of home and what it means to grow up. Through familiar lands to places startling and unknown – across looming castles, endless battlefields and simple brick roads – three friends will hunt and search and scour every inch for the missing fourth. Along the way they’ll have to rely on a whole lot of luck and a little bit of charm, but mostly each other.

A fairy tale for the super-sugar generation, Stays Crunchy in Milk is a road novel packed with 100% of your recommended daily allowance of essential action and adventure. And it’s a delicious part of a nutritious breakfast. This is the single rarest copy of the book in existance. The publisher did a run of exactly 34 hardcover copies. This is copy number 1 of 34, signed, making it one-of-a-kind.

Adam P. Knave is a freelance writer and editor who has written fiction (CRAZY LITTLE THINGS and STRANGE ANGEL, STAYS CRUNCHY IN MILK), comics (LEGEND OF THE BURRITO BLADE and THINGS WRONG WITH ME and stories appearing in Image’s POPGUN anthology) and columns for sites such as thefoonote, TwoHeadedCat, PopCultureShock and MamaPop. He is also one of the editors of Image’s POPGUN anthology as well as other comic projects.
