Earthquake Devastates St. Joseph Home in Port au Prince

Broken Wings is the Canadian fundraising organization whose primary mission is to support the vision and ministry of the St. Joseph Family in Haiti, which includes the St. Joseph’s Home for Boys in Port-au Prince, Wings of Hope in Fermathe, and Trinity House in Jacmel.

Orphans caring for orphans: a beautiful story

St. Joseph’s Home for Boys was Michael Geilenfeld’s dream that became a reality in 1985, bringing boys off the streets of Port-au-Prince to provide them with a Christian home and family.

When French missionaries announced they were leaving Haiti and needed to find care for the disabled children under their supervision, Michael took some of the older boys from St. Joseph's to choose a child to bring home and care for. But the boys surprised Michael when they chose to adopt all the children. Wings of Hope had become a thriving home for disabled children, recently rebuilt and expanded to include a day school for disabled community children and lovely guest facilities.

two tickets to the premiere of 'paradise garden', a play, at Vancouver's Stanley Theatre

Local boy Day, a free spirit, lives next door to worldly Layla, a career-driven intellectual. The two have nothing in common. Or do they?

Over time these divergent souls come to understand each other in a way neither thought possible. A contemporary tale of romance and cultural divides so engaging it will change the way you see the girl (or boy) next door!

~ Paradise Garden by Lucia Frangione

signed 20th anniversary hardcover edition of 'sleeping dragons all around' by sheree fitch & nimbus publishing

Sheree Fitch’s celebrated lipslippery poetry and Michele Nidenhoff’s colourful illustrations combine to make one of the most delightful children’s books ever published in Canada. In this classic children’s book, a girl wakes up in the middle of the night and wants some cake.

But to reach the refrigerator, she has to tiptoe past a host of sleeping dragons—like Priscilla in her pink pantaloons, the punk rock dragon Fagan with spiky green hair, and Beelzebub (who sleeps in the tub). When she stubs her toe, the dragons wake up, and she has to think fast to befriend the dragons.

Sheree Fitch has won almost every major award for Canadian children’s literature, including the 2000 Vicky Metcalf Award for a Body of Work Inspirational to Canadian Children. She has over twenty-five books to her credit. Fitch’s home base is the east coast of Canada. She dances with dragons daily.

Nimbus Publishing (blog here) produces more than thirty new titles a year on a range of subjects relevant to the Atlantic Provinces—children’s picture books and fiction, literary non-fiction, social and cultural history, nature photography, current events, biography, sports, and cultural issues.
